Festival "Primavera en La Habana" |
 In 1981 and due to the efforts of Juan Blanco, the first edition of a festival dedicated to musical creation with electroacustic media took place, receiving its name "Primavera en Varadero" (Spring in Varadero) for been located in the homonymous beach. The beach of Varadero witnessed the most advanced in the field of applied electronics and informatics for music until 1993. The 1983 edition was exceptionally dedicated to host the "Cuba-Mexico Meeting of Electroacustic Music", which was hold at the Museo de los Capitanes Generales in Habana Vieja. Jon Appelton, Max Mathew, Leo Kupper, Ahmed Malek, Nicola Sani, Lejaren Hiller, Manuel Enríquez, Ricardo Dal Farra and Andrew Schloss, were some of the acknowledged composers and tecnologists that participated in "Primavera en Varadero".  With the movemento of its location to the Centro Histórico de la Habana (Historical Center of Havana) in 1998 the name of the festival was changed to "Primavera en La Habana" (Spring in Havana). The event gained a great participation of the interested audience which attended to concerts celebrated at Museo Nacional de Bellas Arts (National Fine Arts Museum ), Casa de la Obrapía (House of Obrapía), Múseo de la Música (Museum of the Music) and the Sala de Conciertos de la Básilica Menor del Convento de San Francisco de Asís (Concert Hall of San Francisco de Asis Convent), among other locations. As an acknowledgement to the festival and to the creation of electroacustic music in Cuba, in the year of 2001 our country was selected as the host and coordinator of the “27a Conferencia Internacional de Música por Computadoras” ("27th Internation Conference of Computer Music"), with seats in the Hotel Melía Cohíba and Teather Amadeo Roldán of Havana City. This annual conference is sponsored by the ICMA (International Computer Music Association) and summons composers, performers and specialists in the field of musical informatics worlwide. "Primavera en la Habana 2006" had among its activities an exhibition cycle devoted to films with presence of electroacustic music in their soundtracks, in which the Cuban cinema had a strong representation . The Festival has propitiated an intense creative exchange which has permitted the Cuban electroacustic music to trascend its frontiers and to possess a space in the most important international events, plus supplying the Cuban creators and specialists with access to music and technological information from the rest of the World.
